Ring Resizing

Resizing a ring is a complex task. The base of the ring must be carefully sawn open. To resize a ring and make it bigger, a new section must be created using the same precious metal and profile and then welded into the opening. To resize a ring down, a saw line is made in the base, and the two sides are then pulled together and welded closed. The change in circumference of the ring can make the diamonds or gemstones loose, so they must be tightened and checked. It becomes difficult when multiple diamonds are on the setting or down the band - mainly micro pave, channel or bead set gemstones. Often, a ring can't be resized more than 4-5 sizes, depending on the design. We resize rings. Visit a local Polished Diamonds shop to check your finger size, and we can adjust your ring. Jewellery Repairs

Repairing jewellery is complex and must be taken seriously. The precious metals can have different alloys and fineness, resulting in different melting temperatures. Heat can flow into gemstones and burn them. Some gemstones are not hard or resistant and can be fake, plastic, or glass. How solder and new metals bind and weld onto existing jewellery and if there are existing repairs and soft solder are complex issues. Most repairs involved retipping the claws or prongs, replacing the band's base, resetting loose gemstones and polishing out scratches. We are qualified to complete these tasks. Visit your local Polished Diamond shop for advice and a quote, and check our Jewellery Repairs Page.

Jewellery Valuations

A jewellery valuation is a detailed record of your item. Qualified gemmologists will check the item under a microscope and confirm the materials. This includes checking the gold quality independently of the hallmark. Check whether the gemstone is natural or synthetic, and then grade the gemstone on colour, clarity, and estimated carat weight. The item is weighed and photographed, and a description is applied to the document. The value is then computed based on the materials, craftsmanship and the ability to replace the item for insurance loss. Much work goes into an insurance valuation, and we recommend having one as a record of your jewellery item. Information can be found on our dedicated valuation page.
